Spring Acres Stable's Breeding Rules
My horses are open to current Express and IPABRA members only - no "I'm going to join" or "the check is in the mail." No exceptions!
Do not advertise your horse as being sired by one of my stallions or out of one of my mares until you have received my approval of the breeding. Failure to follow this rule may result in refusal of future breedings.
Foals must be born between a stallion's first and last foal crop dates and within a mare's open years. Mare open years are usually listed up to two or three years after the current year; I don't allow booking farther ahead than that. If a mare's open years are not listed that far ahead, then the last year listed in her production record is the year that she had her last foal. Also, please note that stallions' books are limited to 40 foals/year and mares can only have 1 foal per year. Thank you.
Correct color genetics must be observed. For instance, mating two chestnuts will only result in a chestnut foal, a grey foal must have at least one grey parent, a roan foal must have at least one roan parent, and a buckskin cannot have dun foals unless the other parent is dun colored. Note, however, that Thoroughbreds CAN be palomino or buckskin, as there are at least two sire lines extant in that breed that are known to carry the cream gene. They would have to be registered with the Jockey Club as light chestnut or light bay, however.
Please try to keep inbreeding to a minimum, preferably no closer than 4X4, but I may be willing to make exceptions if the bloodlines are rare or are noted for producing exceptionally good stock. Please note, also, that some of my stock is inbred closer than this, but it is usually only to preserve the lineage and help make it available up close for modern breeders. The following types of inbreeding WILL NOT under ANY circumstances be approved, however: Parent/child, full brother/full sister, or grandparent/grandchild. Half brother/half sister breedings are usually okay with me unless the common parent is closely inbred, in which case they too will be refused.
I reserve the right to refuse any breeding for any reason. Usually refusals will be because of previously used mare years or improper color genetics, or because the model you are trying to pedigree doesn't fit the breed you want to make it, like if you chose Quarter Horse parents for your Proud Arab Stallion or Arab parents for your Five Gaiter.
Non aging foals from my models are acceptable if you pick a year to cross off my mare's record or to put down on my stallion's progeny listing. The chosen year does not, however, have to be consistent with the model's age.
All of my Thoroughbreds are available to produce stock horse foals, and all of my Quarter Horses can produce Paint and Appaloosa foals, unless otherwise noted. The only reasons I might not allow this for a horse would be because they carried certain bloodlines I want to preserve within their breed, or if the horse was a highly exceptional performer or a producer of exceptional performers.
Horses advertised as "Pedigree Pending" have had their pedigrees submitted for approval by the breeder but have not been approved yet; these horses are not open to the public even if they have progeny listed on their pages.
When the letter U is listed in parentheses next to a horse's name in the pedigree, that simply means that the horse was unregistered even though s/he may have produced registered offspring. When the word "unknown" appears in a horse's pedigree, that just means that *I* don't know the name of that particular horse's parents. Any help you may be able to give in filling in these blanks is much appreciated!!
When requesting a breeding, please use my breeding request form.
Are you looking for a mare or stallion with a particular bloodline? If so, then please be aware that I am working on a search engine for this site that will enable visitors to see which of my horses trace to a particular real stallion or mare.
